There’s nothing better than enjoying afternoon tea with your girlfriends.
Salutorget (Pohjoisesplanadi 15) offers afternoon tea from Monday to Saturday between 2 pm and 6 pm. Afternoon tea costs 22,70€ or add 11,50€ to get a glass of bubbly.
Salutorget serves the tea using Rörstrand’s Ostindia. It’s one of favourite dishware with its pale blue colouring. I would have started collecting it if it weren’t for that ugly brown trims on the edges.
At Salutorget’s afternoon tea we were served toast skagen (on white bread which was peculiar), smoked turkey and horseradish finger sandwich, a cheese quiche and petit choux with truffle cream and cucumber finger sandwich with cream cheese. The cucumber sandwich was a low point. It was a sogging mess. Either they had done it way too early or they hadn’t properly prepared the cucumber.
The scones were fresh, nice and fluffy. They were served with rasberry liquerice jam, lemon curd and mascarpone whipped cream. We had a slice of Yorkshire fruit cake and white chocolate chip cookie.
The top tier had the following delicious things: marmalade, lemon marshmallow, chocolate truffle and passion fruit macaron.
Salutorget is in my opinion one of the nicest place to enjoy afternoon tea in Helsinki (even if they didn’t get the cucumber sandwiches right this time). They have a nice atmosphere and delicious treats. They have re-decorated the place a bit and before you could enjoy the tea in a livingroom-style setting whereas now you enjoy it in a regular booth. So if you want to enjoy a cup of tea, pop into Salutorget.
