Streat Helsinki Eats event brought thirty odd restaurants and food bikes next to the harbour. The entrance was free and on the menu were such mouthwatering dishes as squid fisherman style, smoked crickets, pho soup, pea falafels and sweet and sour pulled duck. The biggest problem (which is not a bad problem to have!) was to choose what to eat.
My first bit was a winner! I chose deep fried Louisana sider with Monterey Jack and onions with Snake Bite dip. It was just the right amount of heavy, salty, sour and sweet. It is dishes like these that make me want to buy a deep frier (whereas my waist and arteries very much oppose such an idea!).
This was followed by a sweet and hot snack: chili pecan brownie. It had just the right amount of kick to make your tongue burn for a bit and enough chocolate taste to ease the burn…
Even though the weather was sunny, the wind made sure you kept your woollen hat on. People happily queued to get their chosen tasty treats. I decided to have small snack of fried cauliflower in a hemp cup which turned out to be a bit of a downer. Definitely not worth the 5€! I should have sticked to my original plan of getting sweet potato fries because they looked nice.
As you can imagine, after devouring all of this food I was starting to get pretty full. I wanted to end on a sweet note so I bought a chocolate liquerice waffle. I had to admit my defeat and ordered the small one (which was still a decent size!).
After enjoying this, I realized my jeans were getting uncomfortable and happily waddled to the train station.
A big thank you to the organizers, the restaurants and the city for this event. What a fun way to spend the day! I hope to see more of these!
