Teeleidi (Tea lady) is a cute tea room in a quaint 100-year old building in the Lutakko area in Jyväskylä. They sell tea paraphilia and have a good selection of green teas and a decent black tea selection.
They also offer tea courses and most importantly, afternoon teas.
The afternoon tea is served upstairs in rooms with doily covered tables and some rich red velvet covered furniture. The walls are decorated with paintings from the current art exhibition that are for sale. In the best possible way, it reminds you of having tea with your Nan.
The afternoon tea is served on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 14 and 18 and it costs 12€. Why is it that everything gets cheaper the further you get from the capital?
The afternoon tea includes the tea of your choice (I chose black Feeniks). Usually mixing porcelain sets annoys me, but now it just added to sense of having a pretend tea party at your Nan’s attic. The only thing missing was a knive for the scones.
The afternoon tea includes sandwiches, fresh scones with jam and whipped cream and panna cotta with liquorice sauce (served in a mock Aalto vase!), nutty chocolate mini cake and a mini éclaire (that was unfortunately half-frozen).
It’s good to see that there are tea rooms outside the capital and I hope they have enough customers to keep them going and they keep on serving afternoon teas. If you are ever in the neighborhood and want a good brew, Teeleidi is worth checking out for yourself.
